Malnad College of Engineering (MCE), Hassan was established in 1960 by Malnad Technical Education Society MTES(R), during second five year plan with the assistance from Govt. of India and Govt. of Karnataka. All the Engineering courses are recognised by AICTE and Architecture course by Council of Architecture. MTES is also running two more institutions -

  • A.V. Kanthamma College for Women and
  • M. Krishna Law College.

The college has all the facilities as per All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) norms and imparts training in 9 under-graduate programmes and 5 post-graduate programmes. Facilities for research leading to appropriate postgraduate and doctorate degrees are also available. The college has a large number of highly qualified and competent staff.

Hassan City is on the National Highway between Bangalore - Mangalore and it commands the most salubrious climate throughout the year, ideally suited for intellectual works. It is well connected by rail and road to Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore and other places of importance. World famous places of archaeological importance like Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola are located in the district. The Master Control - a wing of ISRO that monitors the health of Indian Satellites is located in Hassan.

The college is located on a sprawling campus of 40 acres.

PROGRAMME / DURATION OF COURSES

All the Engineering Courses are recognised by AICTE and Architecture Course by Council of Architecture.

MCE offers the following under-graduate and post-graduate programme :

1. B.E. Degree : 4 years programme comprising of 8 semesters in :

  • Civil Engineering.
  • Mechanical Engineering.
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering.
  • Industrial and Production Engineering.
  • Automobile Engineering.
  • Computer Science and Engineering.
  • Instrumentation Technology.

2. B.Arch : 5 years degree in Architecture

3. M.Tech : 18 months full term course comprising of 3 semesters (AICTE sponsored)

  • Digital Electronics and Communication Systems Offered by the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department in collaboration with the INSAT-Master Control Facility (ISRO).
  • Computer Aided Design of Structures. Offered by the Civil Engineering Department.
  • Computer Applications in Industrial Drives Offered by the Electronics and Communications Department.
  • Electrical Energy Systems Offered by the Electrical and Electronics Department.

4. Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.)
3 years course comprising of 6 semesters offered by the Computer Science and Engineering department.

5. P.G. Diploma in Business Computing (Part time course)
1 year course comprising of 2 semesters offered by the Computer Science and Engineering Department.

6. M.Sc. Engineering, by Research
Normally not less than 3 years and not more than 5 years from the date of registration offered by Civil, Mechanical, E & E and E & C departments.

7. Research Facilities.
Research facilities are available in Civil, Mechanical, E & C Engineering departments leading to Ph.D. degree.

Laboratory and Computing facilities
The college is equipped with the state-of the-art laboratories in all engineering disciplines. Laboratories are modernized frequently by availing Central Govt. grants. Our institution has received central Govt. assistance of more than 3 Crores for the development of laboratories. Departments have their own Computer facilities compatible with the present-state-of art.

Library
Library is quite exhaustive, housed in an area of about 6400 Sqft. An issue library and a reference library is housed in the building. Provision for about 100 students is made in the reference section. Library also gets several journals in various fields of engineering. In addition to the above, there is in-house library in each of the engineering departments.

Hostels
MCE is running 3 hostels on the campus accommodating about 700 boys. There is a separate Girls hostel (off-campus) accommodating about 250 students.

Sports and Games
A sound body is a sound mind and enough importance is given to the extra curricular or co-curricular activities. All round development of the student is ensured while he/she is a student at MCE. The Institution has very good facilities for out-door games such as Cricket, Basket ball, Hockey, Volley ball, Tennis, Ball Badminton, Softball, Handball and Athletics. Facilities for indoor games like Shuttle badminton, Table tennis and Chess are also available. There is a well maintained Swimmingpool and a Gymnasium with multigym facility.
